Dogs - Cats and Kids

Most of us can think back to living with a cat or dog. Kids get along well together. And with these tips, your dog or cat can be secure around children and the children can avoid behavior that's bad for pet.

Most types of dogs and puppies have a good attitude around kids, and take a little rough-housing without acting aggressively. However, this isn't the case with cats. particularly with younger ones, playing with or picking up the cat or kitten often results in scratches or bites. If you're expecting visits from little tykes, you might want to keep them away from each other whenever you can. And if you haven't made a decision for a pet for your family, you may have to seriously evaluate if a cat is a good choice.

Little children, both in the family or on a visit, have to be trained how to handle your pet. It's important that they be warned it isn't a plaything, and that it needs gentleness like any other living thing. Pulling, tugging, slapping, hitting, or any other obnoxious actions must not be tolerated, and you'll need some kind of discipline to tell the young one how bad this is.

Especially if your dog or cat is sick, it's important to keep it away from little ones. Just as we're irritable and more likely to react when feeling awful, your cat or dog needs time away from young children. Your pet needs an opportunity to heal, and putting it in the middle of a crowd will not help it. And of course this is clever for any occasion when an animal is sick.

If the little ones are visiting, one way for both young ones and pet to play well is in an outdoor activities, like taking the cat or dog for a jog or run, playing catch, walking the dog when he needs to go out, or others. These activities can also teach the small children the importance of taking care of a cat or dog.

Involving small ones in the pet's daily life, grooming, feeding, cleaning, and such will aid the small children to develop a closer bond. The result? As the young ones get closer to the animal, they're much less likely to hurt the animal. But, care should be taken with very small children to assist them, so that the dog or cat gets proper attention.

Raising a pet is a great memory for little children. With a little care, it can be a enjoyable period for your pet, too.
